Snapshot: The SEMgroup provided full strategic communications and event planning services to the University of Ottawa in support of the historic "Routes to Freedom: Reflections on the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade" academic conference. The SEMgroup handled Hotel and Venue management, Communications Planning, Entertainment/ Vendor contract negotiations, invitation and poster design, transportation and accommodation services, food and beverage, and Audio/Visual management.
Results Delivered: Approximately 600 people over the course of three days attended 8 complimentary and simultaneous events. These events included a Mini-Film Festival, a sold-out Art Exhibit Opening at CUBE Gallery, a high-level Diplomatic and Parliamentary reception hosted at the prestigious Chelsea Club in Downtown Ottawa, an elegant reception sponsored by the Law Society of Upper Canada featuring Justice Rosalie Abella of the Supreme Court of Canada; a closing speaker luncheon and The Routes to Freedom Endowment Fundraising Gala hosted at the historic Fairmont Chateau Laurier featuring Keynote Speaker Danny Glover.
Substantial media coverage was instrumental to the success of the event, including features by the Canadian Press, the Ottawa Citizen, Embassy Magazine, The Spectrum, CBC Television, CTV Ottawa, CPAC Television, OMNI Television, Rogers Television, CBC Radio, CHIN Radio and CHUO FM. Additionally, the SEMgroup provided support services for the procurement of over $80,000 in sponsorships and in-kind services. The SEMgroup communications team worked with a key graphic designer for the design of a comprehensive website, and the production of over 1000 pieces of event collateral including posters, tickets and invitations.
